Empower Program: Public Speaking and Confidence Building

On 20th July 2024, Future Forte successfully conducted a workshop on Public Speaking & Confidence Building as a part of our 2024 Empower volunteering program. The program was hosted by Regil Cadavos, Future Forte’s Co-CEO which was attended by around 30-35 participants.

The program started with the introduction to the country and paying respects to the traditional owners, elders and the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation (past, present and the emerging). This was followed by an ice breaker activity where everyone was paired in groups of 2-3 people to discuss on how is public speaking is perceived in their respective country of origin? At the end, a volunteer from each group had to summarize the group’s findings in front of the whole audience.

To further break down on the activity, the participants were shown a short video clip on Public Speaking, from Masterclass, a popular US based online education platform. The video was exquisitely further broken down by Mica Honasan, one of the core team members of Future Forte.

The session moved towards another important concept ‘Confidence Building.’ Jessica Ji, another Future Forte core team gave a brief overview on the topic and even shared some tips on how to enhance confidence building. Additionally, another activity was conducted where everyone was split in teams of 4-5 people to discuss 4 questions

  1. What does confidence mean to you?

  2. When do you feel the most and least confident?

  3. What is your biggest fear/challenge when it comes to public speaking and

  4. What keeps you from being confident.

Post discussion, one volunteer from every group briefly had to briefly give an overview regarding their findings effectively to the entire assembly.

Lastly, the participants were also told to put in their key takeaways from the sessions in addition to how they will continue to build on these 2 core skills in the near and far future.

The event concluded successfully with all participants divided into different cross-functional teams (Comms & Marketing, People & Culture, Management & Partnerships, Program) where the participants got to meet their respective team leads and discuss and prepare for Future Forte’s flagship upcoming event “The Future Forte 2024 Conference” followed by a video campaign shoot to increase further awareness about the organization’s work potentially on a national and international level.
