The Value You Will Gain

• Develop important skills

Through the Empower Program workshops, you will hone important skills needed for professional development. You will be engaged in various ways by giving you the space to share your experiences and learn from each other. The sessions will cover the following topics:

• Public speaking and confidence-building

• Finding your forte & building your narrative

• Stress management & wellbeing

Through the Career Readiness Coffee Series, which consists of informal sessions of casual conversations amongst Future Forte community members, you will learn how to prepare for and navigate the Australian workplace through the speakers’ reflections, insights, tips, and strategies. With a cup of coffee or tea, all participants can take part in discussing issues, asking questions, or seeking advice. 

In actively participating in all Empower Program sessions, you will be able to practise your communication and interpersonal skills, build your confidence, and foster relationships with your peers.

• Valuable personal and professional network  

Through in-person and online sessions, team socials, and the online community group (Slack), participants will be able to settle in the Future Forte community and engage with other international students and alumni.

Future Forte likewise conducts and takes part in various events (e.g., conferences, workshops, career fairs, etc.). In attending these, you can have access to more opportunities and thus, expand your personal and professional networks. 

• Community and peer support

The Future Forte community consists of international students and alumni who have found a sense of belongingness and support in each other. In attending sessions, events, and team socials, joining team meetings, and in being active on Slack, you can forge relationships with your fellow participants and other volunteers.

• Develop practical experience 

The Empower Program will provide its participants with volunteering opportunities within Future Forte’s various departments of (a) Operations, (b) Partnerships, (c) Communications and Marketing, and (d) Programs and Events. You will be encouraged (but not required) to sign up for teams you wish to be a part of or learn more about. Being a volunteer in your chosen department means joining team meetings, carrying out assigned roles (e.g., writing grants, writing articles, planning an event), or being part of the Future Forte Conference Committee. 

In becoming a volunteer, you will develop practical experience of working in an Australian not-for-profit organisation and learn from your peers. You can likewise hone other transferable skills such as teamwork and project management.
