MY DISNEY FASHION ODYSSEY

Delve into a captivating journey of personal transformation and creativity as one of our core member collaborates with Disney to bring a classic movie moment to life through fashion

Early this year, my classmates and I were announced that part of our study for last semester would be collaborating with Disney. We were given a brief to use 1 of the 6 iconic Disney moments selected by Disney as inspiration and use our interpretation to bring it to life as an outfit.

I had chosen Cinderella’s transformation moment to be my magical inspiration because I always had a special connection with Cinderella. I admire Cinderella’s resilience; it is a quality that I wished to depict in my outfit. When I started my design journey, I asked myself: “How did Disney depict resilience in the movie?” and “How would I transfer it to a dress?” The answer is, I want to capture the whole process of Cinderella’s dress being made, destroyed, and reborn.

I’ve sacrificed breakfasts, sleep, and social life just to get my dress done. This dress consists of 3 parts: A corset, a crinoline cage, and a bubble-hem dress in which I had never done any of those before. It was a challenge that has pushed my ability a lot; I felt like a baby bird pushed by their parents to learn how to fly. And now, I am flying, but I am and will fly higher and higher. My garment has got chosen to be presented at Westfield Southland by Disney from my 23 fellow students. It is very special to me and is something that I will never forget.
